Congratulations! You have chosen to prepare to have your child baptised. By choosing baptism for your child, they will be open to God’s Grace, experiencing His help and His presence, through the many challenges that life will throw at them. His Holy Spirit can give them a sense of purpose and the courage to change the world around them.
For those parishioners with children under primary school age, baptism preparation involves their parents attending two evening sessions led by volunteers within the parish. These sessions are currently held in the Sacred Heart Parish Hall, 92 Brighton Road, Sandgate, the 1st and 2nd Mondays of most months during the year at 7.30pm. The sessions last for around one hour each evening. Both sessions are compulsory and parents have the opportunity to book a baptism date at the second session. There is no need to book in for the baptism preparation sessions – just turn up. Make sure you check out the Events Calendar to confirm the date of the next session.
For parishioners with school age children, parents are still required to attend these baptism preparation sessions, however the children may also need to be individually prepared before they can proceed to baptism. Simply contact the Parish Office who can advise the best course of action.
IN 2019, BAPTISM PREPARATION WILL CHANGE AND BE OFFERED ON 1ST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH FOLLOWING THE 9AM MASS (BEGINNING AT 10.30AM IN SANDGATE PARISH HALL. BOOKINGS FOR PREPARATION CLASS WILL BE TAKEN VIA THE PARISH OFFICE.
If you are not a parishioner and you wish to have your child baptised within our Parish, you will also need to provide a letter of permission from your Parish Priest before baptism can take place.
All baptisms are normally held at Sacred Heart Church, Sandgate most Sundays at 11am. Each baptism ceremony has a maximum of 4 children at any one time. Please note that unless there are exceptional circumstances, no baptisms take place during Lent. Any children prepared during this period are most welcome to be baptised as part of the Easter Vigil Mass. Otherwise normal Sunday baptisms resume the first Sunday after Easter. Baptism during mass is offered in the parish on the 4th Sunday of the month at 9am.
