Teaching Religious Education in State Schools involves preparing and teaching a half hour lesson each week to a class of children in Years 1 to 6. An average class size is about 25 students. In the Sandgate Brighton area we teach cooperatively with members from the other local churches including Anglican, Baptist, Uniting, Presbyterian and Assembly of God. We teach using ecumenical material, approved by the State Government for use in Queensland schools.
All Religious Education (RE) volunteer teachers attend training days and must hold a current ‘Blue Card’, which can be arranged at no cost to the volunteer by the Parish Office. Training days are held several times a year throughout Brisbane. If you are interested in assisting in this very important evangelising ministry please contact the Catechism in State Schools Coordinator via the Parish Office on phone 3869 1377 or email sandgatebrighton@bne.catholic.net.au Bill Fallis, Coordinator Catechism in State Schools |
