At the Sandgate Brighton Catholic Parish we are blessed with two sister churches, Sacred Heart Church, Sandgate, and the Church of the Real Presence, Brighton. Weddings can be held in either Church. Location maps to both church’s are available on the home page of this website.

While many engaged couples focus on preparing for the wedding day, the Church encourages you to spend your engagement preparing for a strong, lifelong marriage - and the responsibilities and challenges that come with it. Therefore there are a number of steps you will take to prepare for marriage within a Catholic Church.

Firstly you will need to attend a Marriage Preparation Course. These are available from Centacare, Anglicare, and Spiritus.

At least six months before the date of your wedding, you and your fiancé will have your first meeting with the Parish Priest.  This gives you an opportunity to meet with Father and ask him any questions you may have about the process. He will also assist you in filling out paperwork required to be filed prior to the ceremony. You will be required to bring with you to this session, your record of attendance and completion of a marriage preparation course, and copies of the both the bride and grooms birth, baptism and confirmation certificates where applicable.

At this session you will also be provided with a sample wedding booklet. Booklets for the wedding ceremony are normally prepared by the couple themselves, however the Parish Office will provide support and assistance. The Parish Office can also provide details and assistance with flowers, music, and hymn and reading selections.

Depending on the outcome of the first meeting, Father may schedule a number of sessions over the next few months.

A final session with Father is held up to six weeks before the wedding day. This is to review the completed booklet and go through any final details.

Costs associated with holding a wedding in either of the parish church’s includes a $400 deposit to be paid to confirm your booking, and an additional $400 prior to your final session with Father, made payable to the Sandgate Brighton Catholic Parish. A priests stipend is also payable directly to Father at the Wedding Rehearsal (usually 2 days prior to the ceremony). The minimum suggested amount is $200.  If you require an Organist and or Vocalist on the day, this will cost $150 for each and is payable directly to the individual.

If you have any questions or queries, or would like to check church availability please contact the Parish Office on phone 3869 1377 or email sandgatebrighton@bne.catholic.net.au
