SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

Sacrament of Baptism

Congratulations! You have chosen to prepare to have your child baptised. By choosing baptism for your child, they will be open to God’s Grace, experiencing His help and His presence, through the many challenges that life will throw at them. His Holy Spirit can give them a sense of purpose and the courage to change the world around them.

For those parishioners with children under primary school age, baptism preparation involves their parents attending a session led by Fr Joseph and supported by  volunteers within the parish. This session will be held in the Sacred Heart Parish Hall, 92 Brighton Road, Sandgate, on the 1st Sunday of each month at 10.30am.    Parents are required to book in via the Parish Office and attend the 9am Mass that day to be introduced as a family preparing for baptism.  The session last for around 30 minutes.  This session is compulsory and also provides the required paperwork (Baptism Details Form) to  book a baptism date.

For parishioners with school age children, parents are still required to attend this session, however the children may also need to be individually prepared before they can proceed to baptism. Simply contact the Parish Office who can advise the best course of action.

If you are not a parishioner and you wish to have your child baptised within our Parish, you will also need to provide a letter of permission from your Parish Priest before baptism can take place.

All baptisms are normally held at Sacred Heart Church, Sandgate most Sundays at 11am (except 1st Sunday of the month). Each baptism ceremony has a maximum of 4 children at any one time. Please note that unless there are exceptional circumstances, no baptisms take place during Lent. Any children prepared during this period are most welcome to be baptised as part of the Easter Vigil Mass.

Costs: Baptism preparation fee $50. This fee covers the Preparation Pack, Certificate and Candle. The priest’s stipend can be paid using the Baptism Offering envelope provided in the preparation pack received preparation session.  The minimum suggested amount is $50.
